Feng Shui Halls, Stairs and Doors

The main entrance door is considered to be the mouth of the home, where sustenance and good fortune chi can enter.  It is always best faces the same direction as the house.  This brings harmony and balance to the energies surrounding the home.  Even when it is not possible to have the main door located in this way, you should at least have a secondary door or a window there.

Watch out for outside influences to your door.  If your home faces a road interchange such as a traffic circle (roundabout), the effect of the circular energy on your home will depend on how fast the traffic is flowing and whether the roads seems to bring a flow of chi energy into your home.  Traffic moving away from the house is bad and is considered to be taking wealth away from the building while traffic moving slowly towards you is good, bringing good fortune.

The best staircases are wide and curving, ideally wide enough for two people to pass.  When gently curved, they encourage the flow of energy from one level of thouse to the next.  The staircase should look solid and not be open with holes between the stair risers nor should it appear to be “split” when it is near the main door.

Solutions for Staircases

If yours is a narrow staircase, you should definitely keep it well lit.  Make sure the steps do not have “holes” as these weaken the energy, allowing it to seep away instead of it moving up to the next level where it would be strengthened.  Bright lighting guides the chi gently upward.

Metal. Concrete, or Wood?

Metal staircases are best in the West and Northwest parts of a house, although concrete staircases are also good.  Wooden staircases are best in the East and Southeast as well as in the South.  The idea is to select according to the element of the corner where the staircase is located.

Hang Art on a straight staircase to slow down the chi

If the staircase is directlt opposite the front door place a bright light directly between them or, better still, a screen.

Clearing the staircase of junk will improve both your prosperity and health.
